HAWK in Showreel's Director's Notes

Two and a half years of pre-production, accomodation and food for a crew of 30+, a 19 day shoot in Snowdonia North Wales, six actors, two vans, five cars, one Sony F900 Camera, 20 HD Cam tapes, one fake dead deer, on fake Harris hawk, two fake dead rabbits, and a forever-changing script all in aid of an epic fantasy about pagan spirits, doesn't sound like a normal short film experience.

Hawk, which is due for release later this year, is a short with a difference. It's the first trailer for a short not yet completed (that we know of) that has gained cinema release. And currently running on an epic budget of £50,000, it has to be one of the most expensive shorts we've covered in director's notes.

"Theses days anyone can get a digital camera and assemble a crew and make a short film," says director MJ McMahon. "With the internet it's an easy, even straightforward thing to organise. HAWK was an altogether vastly bigger undertaking. We've now lost count of the number of times people have said to me, " I thought it was a feature". We had six people in our Art Department, Wardrobe department and on-location editing."

Artem MD Mike Kelt became an Executive Producer as did celebrity astrologer Russell Grant. "With our website and marketing we wanted to break the mold for a short film. We produced a daily video diary for every day of the shoot in the mountains of North Wales, on top of a written blog and hundreds of still photographs."

We'll review the full film when it's completed.
