A Llanelli schoolboy is setting his sights on the glamorous world of the Cannes Film Festival. St John Lloyd pupil Mark Williams, of Corporation Avenue, is hoping his new short film, Hawk, will wow judges at the prestigious international awards.

A cast and crew of 40 people spent two weeks shooting the film, which tells the story of a boy who retreats into a fantasy world created by his grandfather's stories of Celtic folklore.

The 12 year old - who attends Mark Jermin's drama school, in Swansea - was one of hundreds who, in October 2004, auditioned for the part of Jack. He found out he'd got it in May last year. Mark said, " I was happy when I found out I'd got the part. I was jumping around. I'd just had my hair cut short. When I come home they phoned me to say I'd had the part so I needed to groew it back. I hope this will be the start of my acting career."

The producers are now adding the final touches before the film is released. Mark said he's enjoyed shooting the film on location in Snowdonia and that everyone involved was excited about the project. "It was a bit scarey when we first started filming but I really enjoyed it then," he said. "All the cast came from different areas and were really nice."
