The stunning scenes of Snowdonia form the back drop of a short Welsh film shot by up and coming Welsh Director M J McMahon, Hawk tels the story of Rowan, a young man living with his reclusive grandfather on a Welsh hillside. But when his grandfather succumbs to the bitter winter weather, Rowan finds himself alone and afraid of the world beyond the woodland where he resides. With only a hunting hawk as company, Rowan soon shuns human contact, descending into a life where his only joy becomes hunting - and finding his prey.
Filmed on location in snowdonia, Hawk unites a leading cast of Welsh actors, including First Knight actor Robert Gwyn Davin. "Filming in snowdonia was absolutely beautiful but very cold," says Robert who plays the part of adult Rowan. "It's a very Welsh film and the setting was perfect for the story. "The setting is central to the film and really gives it a lot of atmosphere."
Aside from it's rugged Welsh setting, the film sticks to it's roots by drawing upon Celtic folklore and legend. In his solitude, Rowan remembers his grandfathers tales and retreats into a fantasy world of myth and legend. "Its a film about the human condition and how the line between man and beast can be blurred," adds Robert.
"It investigates wether a person can reclaim themselves when they've gone that far." And with a premier screening at BAFTA in London, Hawk looks set to make a distinct splash in the Welsh film world. "It was a really great film to be involved with. Everyone who worked on the film was fantastic and everyone's really pleased with the finished product."
